Born From the Ashes: A Scorpio New Moon Reflection on Origins & Becoming
By Dr Demeter
This Scorpio New Moon brought a revelation that quietly rearranged the inside of my life. I have always known I was born in ‘that village’ during Ash Wednesday. The stories of fire and vigilance were part of the atmosphere I grew up in, like a mythos that lived in the soil. I was a child who watched the sky, who tightened inside when the wind swung around, who wanted us to leave early on fire-danger days. That instinct lived within me… One major reason is because I was always aware that 18 CFA firefighters died only one kilometre from where I grew up, taken by the Ash Wednesday firestorm. And soon after, another truth surfaced: I was conceived just two months later, in a landscape still smoking, grieving, and trying to regrow itself.
My soul entered as the embers cooled. I arrived in January 1984, just as the first green shoots were returning. A child conceived between destruction and renewal, born in the space where endings and beginnings overlap.
The Thread That Opened the Memory
This revelation came through an unexpected doorway. My herbal friend Lydia had been researching the older, nature-based significance of “Ash Wednesday”. She wasn’t exploring 1983 specifically; we were simply having one of our usual plant-yarns. Her reflections stirred something in me and sent me searching….It landed that I was born into its trauma cycle, into a land remembering fir and into a community holding a wound. I also remembered that my great-grandfather had helped rescue people that night. Sometimes it takes a single herbal conversation to unlock a story we’ve been carrying all along. Wise ones say, plants show you the way…
Scorpio New Moon: The Descent That Reveals the Root
Scorpio calls us to go inward, downward, and into truth. This New Moon opened a chamber I didn’t know was waiting, the story of my own beginning woven into the story of a place learning how to heal. I now understand why my body speaks in warnings and why my work reaches instinctively for regeneration. I was born from a landscape undergoing its own rebirth. Scorpio reminds us that our origins are not chance….They are part of our assignment.
Chiron Retrograde in Taurus (3rd House): Healing Through Land & Story
Chiron in Taurus brings us into contact with the wound of the earth, as well as the longing for stability and belonging. In the 3rd house, this wound lives in early childhood, in the nervous system, in the neighbourhoods that shape us, and in the voice that slowly forms. It makes perfect sense for me, now. I grew up in a landscape still integrating grief, surrounded by adults forever changed by fire, within a community that held vigilance like a second skin. Chiron retrograde doesn’t reopen the wound; it brings the story back to us so that we can tell it differently, so the medicine can grow from it.
The Shift Into Sagittarius: Fire Returning After Water
The Sun has just entered Sagittarius, bringing warmth and momentum after Scorpio’s depth. This shift may feel like a mixture of new inspiration and the need for rest. It is natural to oscillate between stillness and sparks. This is how we transition from water to fire. Understanding the past begins to shape the horizon ahead. This season carries powerful movement:
Saturn and Neptune station direct in Pisces, realigning us to the dreams we are willing to commit to.
All personal planets move through Sagittarius, each squaring the lunar nodes and opening choice points.
An out-of-bounds Gemini Full Moon activates the mutable cross.
A New Moon on the Galactic Center brings revelation and cosmic insight.
This is a time to dream with intention and step toward timelines that feel true.
From Fireline to Futureline
Remembering these pieces of my origin doesn’t change who I am; it clarifies who I’ve always been. It explains my devotion to land, my instinct for regeneration, my work in cultural and ecological renewal, and my ability to hold collapse and revival in the same breath. I was conceived in fire-shadow and born in regrowth. No wonder I am drawn to repair. No wonder my work bridges soil and soul, policy and imagination, community and ecology.
This is Scorpio’s truth,
Taurus’s healing,
Sagittarius’s horizon,
and the story of my lineage.
A Closing Blessing
Scorpio whispers:
“Know the root.”
Chiron whispers:
“Heal the story.”
Taurus whispers:
“Belong to the earth that shaped you.”
Sagittarius whispers:
“Aim toward the future your origins prepared you for.”
And the land of my conception whispers back:
“From ash you came...Grow something beautiful now.”
With love and Con Viv
